Our Work in London
As of 2023, Atlantic Pacific is thrilled to have officially opened an office and training hub at the Royal Docks in East London, where we are also an accredited RYA Training Centre.
We are very excited to be located in this ever-growing area in the borough of Newham where we can engage with the local community and be a part of important waterfront developments happening in sport, recreation, and historical regeneration.
Our base at the Royal Docks is the main learning hub for most of our courses, conveniently accessible by public transportation as well as within walking distance from London City Airport, making it easy for participants to travel to.
Especially after the screen-focused isolation of the pandemic, but also simply due to the geographical distribution of our colleagues, we’re very excited about having a place for our team to gather.
Due to construction delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, we are still putting on the final touches, but our team is already working out of the space and delivering courses.
As a Training Centre accredited by the Royal Yachting Association, we are authorised to deliver the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course; an entry-level course that provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat.
The Historic Royal Docks
Once the largest enclosed docks in the world, today the 250 acres of water is becoming an exciting shared resource for the city, including a unique waterfront and a growing place for business and culture in Newham, East London.
Atlantic Pacific at the Royal Docks
We are happy to work with The Royal Docks Team providing diverse water-related safety services. Some recent activities have included:
Providing safety boating for sporting events, such as the Commonwealth Games 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay;
Lifeguarding at the Royal Docks Summer Splash 2023 at the temporary lido on the Royal Victoria Dock;
Participating in community events such as the Royal Docks Originals Festival by providing RIB rides so members of the community could appreciate the Royal Docks architecture from the water.
Atlantic Pacific in Newham
Central to our work in London, and to our values, is to engage with the community in Newham and especially with local youth. We run a multi-faceted programme which involves courses, camps, and outreach in nearby schools. The goals of this programme are to encourage children and young people to be confident and safe on the water.
Depending on the specific activity children and youth involved in our programming could be:
learning basic boating skills;
learning basic search and rescue;
learning first aid qualifications;
being introduced to careers in medicine, emergency response, and humanitarian work;
discussing climate change and their role in solutions;
gaining confidence in leadership & teamwork skills
As much as possible, we want to be part of the long term development of our youth participants in Newham. Their input, ideas, and dedication are crucial contributions to issues like climate change and drowning crises worldwide. We are always happy for our Newham alumni to get further involved in AP as volunteers or instructors, whether at Royal Docks, as part of our Lifeboat in a Box project, or internationally.
